In an online article by John P. Johnston, the crystals of the Atlanteans are developed more in
their nature and uses. Due to an elevated psychic sensitivity, the Atlanteans could receive information from the energy of their crystals. The Atlanteans discovered the fact that crystals absorbed human thought and emotion long before their nation became a dominant force on the planet. Whenever they touched a crystal they invariably experienced a series of impressions, sights and sounds that somehow reflected events that had actually occurred. It wasn't until thousands of years later that the people of Atlantis began programming crystals, not only with important data, but with spiritual energies that both healed the body and awakened the indwelling Soul.

Atlantean crystals were natural forms, but their growths were speeded up. Some specimens of clear quartz were produced to almost 25 feet high and 10 feet in diameter, had 12 sides and were used for storing and transmitting power.

Smaller crystals, four to five feet high were infused with different colors, and had a varied number of facets, were used for different purposes, such as healing, meditation, psychic development, increasing mental capacity, communications, powering generators, dematerializations, and transport of objects, magnetic force fields, and travel at speeds unfathomable by today's culture.

There were three main categories of programmed crystals. In the first category, the crystals were infused with the teachings of the elders and served as a source of knowledge and intellectual growth. The second category of crystals were imbued with sound and color, so that they emitted both healing and developmental energies. According to Johnston, these energies both purified and refined the three lower vehicles of consciousness, eventually aligning the personality with the vibration of the Soul. The third type of crystal was infused with pure energy. This energy was used as a general power source of the Atlantean civilization, supplying power to the entire population.

A number of crystals were shaped into inverted pyramids, with four to six sides, were infused with various shades of pink or rose. These crystal created a light beam for surgery, by changing molecular structure, and for soothing pain, particularly in the delicate areas of the brain, the eyes, the heart and reproductive organs. Gold or yellow crystals changed colors to deeper hues in the presence of disease or disorders. Ruby and purple stones helped cure emotional and spiritual problems. Black crystals, no longer in existence, were used as powerful protectors.
